Lyon v Barcelona
We all know that Barcelona is the big favourite in this double with Lyon. Has quality players, offensive game, scores round by round no matter were they play. In the last 8 rounds played away in Primera Division they scored at least 2 goals/match, come after a defeat in Catalunya`s derby. They haven`t played bad but the players were too nervous, the refree made some mistakes. They still have 7 points in front of Real Madrid. The problem is that left defender Abidal will miss 2 months after this match with Espanyol. Barca`s players reacted positively after this match, saying that the real Barcelona will be seen Tuesday, and they will be back at high level. I believe in the trio of Eto`o – Messi - Henry in attack line. Lyon comes after 3 victories in Ligue 1, but Ligue 1 isn`t a strong Championship. This team doesn`t have many players with quality(Coupet, Malodua, Diarra or Essien are much better than Lloris, Makown, Ederson or Kallstrom). When a team wins 7 titles but they don`t make a final of Champions League in this period it`s clear that Ligue 1 isn`t Primera, EPL or Serie A. Their game is based on two players, the brasilian Juninho and the striker Benzema, if Barcelona won`t give them many free-kicks and will take care of Benzema I don`t think will have big emotions. Fiorentinta had lead of 2-0 at Lyon, finished 2-2, Bayern won with 3-2. I can`t see Lyon winning this match.
Arsenal v Roma
Roma have lost their past 4 games in England and this could be number 5.
Arsenal are not in terrific form by all means, but there were glimpses of quality against Sunderland. All they lack are goals, but this is the Champions League and Roma wont sit back with all men behind the ball like Sunderland did.
Roma have a bit of injury worries, Totti has only just been passed fit but Cicinho, Vucinic and Aquallani are struggling. Roma have lost too many away games in the league and to ask them to come to the Emirates with a hope of gaining a result will be very difficult.
Arsenal maybe struggling but Wenger will know that he needs a result here so maybe they can sneak a win here. Roma will have their work cut out and Arsenal can get back into form.
Atletico Madrid v FC Porto
Atlético have lost six of their last ten matches in all competitions, yet coach Resino is confident they will lift themselves for the UEFA Champions League. If we want to get through, we have to go out to win, he said ahead of only his fourth game since replacing Aguirre three weeks ago. Little by little were getting better. Were trying to get back to where we were. To get through would be really satisfying but the most important thing is that the team continues improving and that the players catch on quickly to what Im telling them.
Inter Milan v Man Utd
I watched Inter in last week’s Milan derby and in the first half they impressed me, they played very good football and Adriano and Ibrahimovc looked a real threat. But second half they really struggled and I think they are far from being a Manchester United, despite both being the dominant clubs in their respective domestic leagues. They are unbeaten in their last seven in all competitions, winning six and the San Siro has never been an easy place for teams to go. Any team managed by Jose Mourinho is going to be a very good one and his record against Sir Alex is fantastic with only one loss in twelve outings but this is still very much an Inter team that lost 3-0 on aggregate to Liverpool last year, losing 1-0 at the San Siro and they won only one of their three home matches in the group stages, 1-0 against minnows Anorthosis, drawing 1-1 with Werder Bremen and losing 1-0 to Panathinaikos.
There isn’t a lot you can say about Manchester United, simply they are the best team in the world at this moment in time and if anyone knows a better all round team then send me a video of them. United have won their last eleven matches in all competitions, 16 of their last 17 and are top of the Premier League by seven points. They did finally concede in the Premier League at the weekend, Roque Santa Cruz pulling Blackburn Rovers level before Cristiano Ronaldo scored what was simply a brilliant free kick. They do have problems at the back ahead of tonight’s match, Vidic the most notable absentee, while John O’Shea is a doubt but young Jonny Evans looks a lot less likely to play than O’Shea. Their last loss in the Champions League did come at the San Siro when they were beaten 3-0 by Milan in the Semi Finals in 2007 and their last two losses in the Champions League have come on Italian soil. I think with some problems at the back it wont be as easy for the Reds and they do have a couple of stats I’ve pointed out going against them, draw game because I can’t see anyone beating United at this moment in time.
