todays 02-05-2009 live match here
Middlesbrough v Man Utd
Potential bogey team for the reds so you cant rule out a draw as the girls from the north east scrap for premiership survival.
Although I have every confidence United should edge closer to the title ahead of the 3 oclock kick offs. It will largely depend on what team AF fields given the fixtures list, this game being in amongst an Arsenal triple header.
United to win by a goal or 2?
Chelsea v Fulham
I cant see Chelsea resting many players ahead of next weeks CL game. Hiddink has taken just about all his games seriously and with Anelka expected to start he will want to get on the score sheet. They have been strong at the back recently and if they rest anyone back there they still have some good defenders to call on.Fulham have been in very good form recently having lost only once in their last six. They are undefeated in their last three away games but overall they have still only won two game son the road this season, scoring only nine goals. They are without Johnson here and although they have a decent recent record against Chelsea, drawing their last two games at Stamford bridge, they have also never won there in the premiership.Home win for me.2-0
Tottenham v West Brom
It is on the cusp of the odds that I am prepared to take but I will have a Spurs win here
Spurs still have a lot to play for with a European spot within their reach so I do not think they will be packing up for the summer just yet..
Unbeaten at home in 9, winning their last 4, they have won 7 of their last 10 overall and should be far too good for the BaggiesAlthough West Brom beat Sunderland last weekend we all know how poor they have been on the road 1 win all season says it all.
Tottenham win for me.
Man City v Blackburn
Never know what to make of Man City, but one thing is certain - their home form is better than their away form. I will have a saver on Man City/draw, but the first selection is a home win. They havent lost a home Premiership match since December, so at evens they look decent value to win again today against lowly Blackburn. Their opponents have lost their last 3 straight away games and 5 of their last 7 away matches. They will find it hard to win against a team who have such a fine home record this season. Both teams are capable of scoring, with 54% of Blackburn an 56% of Man City finishing as overs. I sense another high scoring match, but ending with a home victory.
Portsmouth v Arsenal
There is no better time for Pompey to play Arsenal. Arsene Wenger will risk nobody with the 2nd leg against United coming up.He already has some defensive concerns with Gallas, Cliche and Silvestre out.He still has some taleneted players to call on and i see no reason why Arshavin wont start this one as he cant play in the CL.Pompey always give Arsenal a good game and are usually tough to beat at home.Good news for Pompey is that Kaboul is close to returning so Johnson might be able to push forward into the position he enjoys.Whether that will be in this game or not i dont know but Johnson can be dangerous when playing at right back aswell.Scoring goals has been a major problem for Pompey recently and they miss Kranjcar.Crouch will cause the gooners patched up defence some problems and Belhadj has been playing really well recently when getting forward. There key player though will be Pennant who hopefuly they will play from the start. He looked impressive when coming off the bench against Newcastle.Paul Hart has them in good form and they look safe enough but will want to cement their place in the premiership. The last time they beat Arsenal was in 1956 but they have held them to three draws in their last there home games.Pompey will need Campbell and the rest of their defence to be at their best as Arshavin could be playing and although the Gooners have nothing to play for, they also have nothing to lose. They are 10 points clear of Villa so 4th place still wants cementing. I am tempted to go for Pompey but im a little concerned about Arshavin, the quality that Wenger can call on if needed and the lack of goal scorers pompey have.Im going to go with the draw here.
Real Madrid v Barcelona
What can you say, the greatest showdown in football, as close to the champions league final in importance and the spectacle.
These two teams couldn\’t come into this any different than they are, Barca are in the middle of a treble season, they are still in the cup, the champions league and on the verge of the title, messi is getting the pachichi and they are brilliant.Madrid on the other hand should be in court right now, or at least Pepe. i mean……the guy should be in jail for god\’s sake!
Anyway, onto the football, Madrid are in great form, their best of the season. Madrid have won their last 7, conceding just 6 and scoring 19. They are making a great push for the title and will see this as a must win if they are to have any chance. They are currently 4 points behind and need to win by at least 2 but preferably 3 due to Barcelona\’s goal difference.
I think Barca know this and will try to play in a slower tempo, looking only for the counter attack. They have won 5 of their last 6 and look in great form also.
However, looking at it from a situational position, Barca are sandwiched in between a semi final with Chelsea. Madrid are fresh and have trained for a week on this game whereas Barca will get 2 days. It\’s also on a saturday so Barca get one less day to train and rest.
At home, Madrid have only dropped points in 3 games and will go all out for the win in this one
The only time this season Real Madrid will be these odds at home, i have to take themInter Milan v Lazio
Both teams will be under little pressure as Inter is in position of being champion and Lazio is in the middle far from getting anything. So the stronger, Inter, will prevail. The team from Milano has no games lost at home and 1/3 rd draws. Lazio has as many won than lost and only 1 draw away. A confident bet at a decent price.
